Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Rajesh Munat on Wednesday said that the department will launch a campaign to create awareness regarding accidents on national and State highways and other arterial roads.
He was a addressing a twoday training workshop of Engineers ‘Road Safety Audit’ here on Wednesday.
The Minister said that as per the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi,’ programme, the State Government has a target of reducing road fatalities by at least 50 per cent by 2020.
The workshop was organised by the State Public Works Department with the co-operation of Central Road Research Institute New Delhi.
Munat called upon the officers to launch a campaign to earmark roads which are accident prone.
The Minister said that Engineers should be held accountable if there are faults in design of roads which lead to accidents.
PWD Secretary Subodh Kumar Singh said audit of the roads should be done where more serious accidents take place by the Central Roads Research Institute. The suggestions can be implemented.
Central Roads Research Institute Scientist Dr S Velmurgan and Dr Saleem J Gupta gave detailed description of the aims and objectives of the Training Workshop.
