After remaining on the run for some days with police launching a manhunt for him in several States, husband of the alleged kitty queen Gurpreet Kaur Savinder Singh has surrendered before the district court in Roshanabad on Wednesday.
Several women who invested in the kitty group run by the couple alleged that they have been swindled of nearly Rs 50 crore by the couple in the name of kitty lotteries and the like. Savinder Singh was sent to judicial custody after he surrendered in the court. Notably, Gurpreet Kaur, a BJP leader who is allegedly close to the state urban development minister Madan Kaushik had been arrested by the police a week ago.
Speaking of the matter, nagar kotwali in-charge Chandrabhan Singh said, “We were on constant hunt of Savinder Singh. Five teams were formed and sent to different States. They interrogated his kin for information leading to his arrest. He surrendered before the court on Wednesday. Now we would appeal to the court to take him on judicial remand for intensive interrogation.”
However, the lawyers who appeared for Savinder in the court Virender Pratap Singh and Rishi Mehra said that their client who was booked under trumped-up charges has surrendered on his own.
Notably, police have so far received over 5,000 complaints regarding the matter of kitty swindling. After Gurpreet Kaur was arrested by a 12-member SIT team had been formed to round up Savinder Singh who absconded.
Besides, SOG team and police have been working at their own levels to solve the case. During interrogation, Gurpreet Kaur had claimed to have divorced Savinder days before the swindling controversy had hit the headlines.
