Hindi play 'Panna Dhai' staged at Bharat Bhavan

The struggle and sacrifice of a nursemaid Panna Dai was brilliantly showcased in a Hindi play 'Panna Dhai'. The play was performed on Tuesday at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhavan.

Directed by Balendra Singh, the play was performed by the artists of Hum Theatre Troupe, Bhopal. Based on the Bengali novel Panna Dai by Sachin Sen Gupta , the writeup was translated to Hindi by Nomichandra Jain.

Panna Dai was a 16th century nursemaid to Udai Singh II, the fourth son of Maharana Sangram Singh. Her son Chandan was of similar age of Udai Singh and was his playmate.

The story of play Panna Dai narrates her struggle and sacrifice for Udai Singh. She always took Udai as her own son, treated him the way she treated Chandan. Since his birth Panna Dai stood by him what may come.

The story on one side describes Panna Dai's motherly love and on the other side the fearless mother. The play also highlighted the greed and the conspiracy for the throne.

When it was realised by Udai Singh's uncle Bhanvir that he will succeed his father Maharana Sangram Singh, he plotted conspiracy against him. Bhanvir wanted to kill Udai so that Bhanvir could success the throne.

As Panna Dai discovered the plotting of Bhanvir against Udai, she did something which was astonishing. Panna Dai decided to sacrifice the life of her own son Chandan in order to save life of Udai Singh.

The emotional scene in the end of the play left everyone with teary eyes. The play was splendidly performed on stage leaving the audience awestruck.
