Rain continuing to lash the State, the weathermen said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in the State on Friday. Director of Meteorological centre Bikram Singh saido n Thursday that the official announcement of monsoon might be made for Uttarakhand on Friday.
With drizzling dragging throughout the day with varying intensity, the maximum temperature in Dehradun was much below the normal mark. It was around six notches below the normal in the city, said Singh.
The maximum temperature was 26.2 degree Celsius in the city on Thursday while the minimum was 22.5 degree Celsius –one notch below the normal. The highest maximum temperature of the state 32.8°C- one notch below the normal- was recorded at Pantnagar.
Singh further said that by 8.30 am on Thursday over the past 24 hours, 170 mm rainfall was reported in Jolly Grant, 130 mm in Roorkee, 110 mm in Dehradun, 70 mm each in Mussoorie, Dharchula, 60 mm each in Srinagar, Haridwar, Jakholi, Kashipur and Gairsain, 50 mm each in New Tehri, Pauri and Ukhimath, 40 mm each in Barkot, Chamoli and Rudraprayag, 30 mm each in Uttarkashi, Purola, Jaspur, Keertinagar, Haldwani, Devprayag, Chaukhutiya and Joshimath, 3 mm in Mukteshwar and 6.5 mm in Panthagar.
Singh said that following widespread rainfall activity with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places during the next 48 hours, landslide/roadblock are likely in the vulnerable areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts. Besides, the low- lying areas of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts might be inundated.
The weather forecast for Dehradun on Friday is generally cloudy sky and one or two spells of rain/thunder showers at many places. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 28°C and 22°C respectively in Dehradun on Friday.
