Reiterating their demand for immediate arrest of the accused persons who had threatened Odisha State Bar Council member Chinmaya Kumar Mohanty, Orissa High Court lawyers of on Monday decided to continue their cease-work February 2.
Mohanty has filed a complaint at the lingaraj police station in Bhubaneswar.
“The general body meeting of the HC Bar Association would be held again on Thursday afternoon to decide the further course of action,” informed association vice-president Kali Prasanna Mishra after presiding over the day’s general body meeting. The HC lawyers had been boycotting courts since Friday last week.
The association’s general body also passed another resolution suspending advocate Bibhu Prasad Tripathy from the membership of the association. Advocate Gyanaranjan Mohanty had also been suspended from the association last week. Both Tripathy and Mohanty are also members of the Bar Council and both now officiate as Additional Government Advocates (AGAs).
“The learned Advocate General (AG) will be requested to remove Mohanty and Tripathy from the Government panel as both of them are involved in criminal cases,” said a Press release issued by the HC Bar Association on Monday.
When contacted, the bar association vice-president said the request is to be made to the AG so as to facilitate an impartial police inquiry into the criminal cases in which both Mohanty and Tripathy are allegedly involved.
