Haryana Govt signs MOU with IOCl

Friday, 31 March 2017 | PNS | Chandigarh

Haryana Government on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Oil Corporation limited (IOCl) for the beautification and enhancing of the overall ambience of the area under the 2.7 kilometers of Elevated Highway Corridor in Panipat.

The MOU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Manohar lal. The CM congratulated the IOCl on entering into an agreement with the State Government and said they should make efforts to complete this project by October 2017, within the swarna jayanti year of the state. Executive Director (in-charge), Panipat Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, BV Rama Gopal informed the Chief Minister that the Board of Indian Oil Corporation limited has approved over Rs 6.84 crore for this project under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. Under this project, facilities like five toilet complexes, interlocking paver blocks and 140 lED lights would be provided under the 2.7 kilometers of Elevated Highway Corridor which would not only ensure the overall ambience of the area, but also support the National Mission of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, help to curb pollution and ensure smooth parking, said he.

Gopal also thanked the Chief Minister for providing this opportunity to IOCl and assured him that efforts would be made to complete this project by October 2017.

Notably, the Chief Minister had made an announcement togive facelift to the area under the Elevated Highway Corridor in the middle of the Panipat City on GT road.

Meanwhile, the IOCl has also decided to set up a Second Generation (2G) Ethanol Plant over an area of 50 acres at Panipat in Haryana. It would be the first such plant of IOCl in the state.

BV Rama Gopal in a meeting with the Chief Minister has urged that the IOCl be provided the land of Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) in Panipat for the setting up of this plant. Gopal said that it is a new technology under which the agriculture residue would be converted into Ethanol. Twenty per cent of the ethanol produced through this technique could directly be mixed in petrol, he added. He said that after the harvesting season, people used to burn the agriculture residue in the fields which resulted in large scale pollution in the area, especially during the winter season. The setting up of this plant would not only help in getting rid off this problem, but also ensure proper utilization of agricultural residue by generating Ethanol, informed he.
