Governor Droupadi Murmu on Saturday laid the foundation stone of a new building where the Department of Tribal and Regional languages (TRl) under Ranchi University will soon start functioning.
The construction work of newly proposed TRl building is expected to get complete in one and half years. The building which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 3.35 crore will have sufficient space for carrying out research and development (R&D) activities for all dedicated nine tribal languages at present being taught at different departments.
As per the civil planning, the proposed building will have ground floor and three additional floors (G+3) which will be developed showcasing the tribal cultures. The Governor, on the occasion, said that the new building is dedicated to uplift the tribal and regional language studies here in Jharkhand, “The building is being constructed with the aim to develop a centre of excellence for tribal language studies. All the nine language departments will have dedicated rooms merged with all essential facilities, separate rooms for Head of the Departments (HoDs), labs etc. Focus will be on developing scripts for each language. Also, attempts are being made to appoint teachers for each subject,” the Governor said.
Besides this, the new building will also have a dedicated library, multi-purpose rooms, auditorium etc. At present, Kuduk, Santhali, Ho, Mundari, Khadia, Nagpuri, Khortha, Kurmali and Panchpargania are being taught here. Students, research scholars and professors present on the occasion expressed their happiness over this course of development.
“We have been demanding for the dedicated State-of-the-Art building for TRl Department since long. The new building will have all facilities that will aid in promoting the tribal and regional language studies across the State. Also, development of scripts, focus on R&D will strengthen the Department’s role in preserving the dying lingos. In addition, efforts are being made to fill the vacant posts of the teachers,” said HOD, Department of TRl, Triveni Nath Sahu after the inaugural ceremony. Ranchi University (RU) Vice-Chancellor, Dr Ramesh Kumar Pandey, PRO (VC), Dr Kamini Kumar along with other university staffs were present on the occasion.
