With the objective of providing a thrust to the systematic expansion of tourism sector, the Madhya Pradesh regime has set up the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB). “Established as a non-profit company under the Tourism Department and pursuant to the Companies Act, the MPTB – which came into existence on April 10 – is scheduled to hold its maiden meeting shortly,” Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director Hariranjan Rao told.
A decision vis-à-vis setting up the Borad was taken during a cabinet meeting – headed by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan – held at well-known hill station Pachmarhi recently.
The MPTB’s main objectives include discharging of its responsibilities under the Tourism Policy-2016, attracting private investments in the tourism sector, making facilities available to investors and the implementation of new policies. The MPTB would chalk out schemes for development of archaeological sites, wildlife sites, natural caves, parks, water areas and other entertainment spots. Steps would be initiated for boosting rural tourism – through culture, costumes, handicrafts and handicrafts — and eco-tourism.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is the chairman of the Board of Directors. Minister of State for Tourism Surendra Patwa and the Chief Secretary are vice-chairmen. Principal secretaries of Finance, Forest, Urban Development and Environment and Culture departments would serve as directors.
