Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain on his visit to East Coast Railway on Monday reviewed the progress of ongoing railway projects.
ECoR General Manager Umesh Singh and top officials were present. Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) of Sambalpur and Waltair divisions were also available in video conferencing.
The meeting laid stress on train safety and regular inspections. The Minister said that unconnected areas of Odisha will be given priority in linking and there would be no financial constraints to speed up or implement projects. He sought cooperation from all agencies to complete the projects in time.
Also focus was laid on early tendering of all new projects and passenger amenities. Besides, it was decided that connectivity to the ports would be improved. The Minister would personally review the delay in projects being undertaken by RVNl.
Gohain assured that demands for new trains would be examined positively. Since Khurda Road-Puri section has been declared a green corridor, there will be no human waste on the track from train toilets. All trains starting from Puri would be fitted with bio-toilets by the end of the year, it was decided.
Encroachments on railway land need to be tackled on a systematic basis and if required videography of railway land should be done. There would be more personal supervision and super checks on safety aspects at higher levels during inspection, the meeting decided.
