Ghurabandha block's panchayat head, Jaboti Munda has been arrested and sent to Ghatshila sub-jail for assaulting 42-year-old panchayat samity member Nilkanth Munda of the same block of East Singhbhum's Ghatshila sub-division. The assault took place on Saturday night.
The 24-year-old Jaboti panchayat head in the Naxal-dominated Ghurabandha block had alleged that Nilkanth had attempted to sexually assault by entering into her house late on Saturday night.
OC, Ghurabandha police station, Kuldeep Kumar said as Nilkanth went over to Jaboti's house, the latter picked up a stick and thrashed the victim.
As a result of the assault, Nilkanth sustained multiple injuries . The rescuer, Chunnu Munda, who is a former naxal, informed the police who took the injured to a referrel hospital in Makri in Ghatshila sub-division.
On the other hand, Nilkanth said that he had gone to Jaboti's house for meeting her parents for discussion over something and the allegation made by the Panchayat Pramukh is baseless. OC, Ghurabandha, said as the matter was related to Panchayat functionaries, they had to get the matter probed. Kumar said today they forwarded Jaboti to the Ghatshila sub-jail after producing her before a judicial magistrate, adding that they would arrest Nilkanth also if the complaint against him is proved to be true.
