A day after at least eight people were killed in road mishaps that occurred in Pauri district, four persons died in two different accidents in Dehradun and Pithoragarh districts over the past 24 hours. The accident spree continuing unabated across the state has left the people scared.
Three persons died while three others were injured when the car they were sitting in plunged into a gorge at lauli lachair on Madmanle Road in Pithoragarh district. SDRF and local police led by CO rushed to the site. The deceased were identified as Narayan Singh (62), Ram Singh (84) and Ganga Devi (76), all residents of Ghirara. They were learnt to have died on the spot. The injured were Kheema Dei (62), Parvati Devi (45) and the driver Jitendra Gurang (32), all residents of Ghirari, said SP Pithoragarh Ajay Joshi.
In another accident that occurred in Dehradun district, one Nitin Singh, resident of Jassowala in Sahaspur, died when the cycle he was riding was hit by a car coming from the opposition direction at lakhanwala Chowk on Sunday night. Nitin is learnt to have died on the spot.
Acting on the complaint lodged by the deceased’s uncle Dharampal, resident of Jassowala, a case under section 279/304a was registered against the accused in the Sahaspur police station. Soon after the case was filed, police arrested the accused Yunus, resident of Jassowala. He would be sent to jail after being produced in the court, said Sahaspur police station officer.
