“Food security has a strong linkage with economy and must be looked holistically as State’s responsibility,” said Green Nobel winner Prafulla Samantara in a two-day State-level convention on Right to Food held here on Tuesday organised by the Odisha Khadya Adhikar Abhiyan (OKAA) and activists working on the Right to Food issues.
State Food Commission Chairperson Rangalal Jamuda mentioned that the commission is trying its best to monitor effective implementation of the National Food Security Act in spite of being understaffed.
The PRI members demanded for speedy recognition of individual and community forest rights as per Forest Rights Act 2006 and special emphasis on the rights of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG).
Activists of river, water and Dalit rights, members of Indigenous People’s Forum, Wateraid, NAWO and State Information Commission, besides transgender activist Meera Parida spoke on the occasion.
