Even as the Health Department and the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) have planned to create awareness about taking remedial measures against vector-borne diseases from July first week, a 26-year-old  dengue patient was identified in Adapada village under Sanakhemundi block on Thursday.

According to sources, he is the first dengue patient to be identified in Ganajm district.

While he was in Surat some days back, the youth had suffered from fever and gone through different blood tests. later, he came to his village where he got a high fever again.

He was taken to the MKCG Medical College Hospital. His blood test showed dengue positive, said Medical Officer Dr Uma Shankar Mishra.

Dengue generally occurs in rainy season when mosquito larva thrives on clogged water, said Mishra.

According to reports, in 2016, 329 cases of dengue were identified in the district out of which 72 cases were reported from Brahmapur. Girisola was the worst affected area.
