Finally, VIMSAR appoints 54 contract doctors

Tuesday, 31 January 2017 | PNS | SAMBALPUR

Finally, the authorities of VIMSAR have been able to enjoy the power of autonomy. Without waiting for the OPSC, the authorities here have appointed 54 contractual doctors to sort out the vacancies in staff position.

As per information, the matter of staff shortage is a regular affair in VIMSAR. And, the dillydallying process of appointment of doctors by the OPSC added to the trouble.  Hence, to find out an immediate solution, the authorities here floated an advertisement towards the end of the last year for appointment of contractual doctors in different departments.

“While 86 doctors applied in response to the advertisement, we have given appointment to 54 for a tenure of one year which may be extended further,” informed VIMSAR principal Dr Bijay Kumar Dutt. These doctors will join in their new posts by February 7, Dr Dutt added.

“By the arrangement, the problem of staff crunch both in the college and medical sides could be solved to certain extent. At the same time it will be helpful in fulfilling the criteria fixed by MCI (Medical Council of India) to VIMSAR as regards improvement in staff position,” Dr Dutt added.

Notably, the seats in MBBS stream have been increased to 250 in the medical college and the MCI visited VIMSAR to give the final permission for the increase in seats recently. It also visited the institute twice to take stock of the staff situation. Hence, the appointment of 54 doctors will be very much helpful as another round of MCI visit is expected shortly, Dr Dutt said further.
