A high-power technical team of the International Rice Research Institute, Philippines and researchers of Odisha visited rice fields at Kuanarpur near Balanga on Wednesday.
They had introduced a new variety paddy named VINA - 11 in 30 acres of land. The paddy was undertaken in transplant method of the IRRI. The experts of both IRRI and Odisha had guided about 30 farmers of Kunarpur village.
Dr Mukul Warior, Dr Shital Sharma from the IRRI and experts of Odisha Dr Priti Bharati and Dr Rajiv Kumar were in the team. It was found that while general paddy production is 13quintals per acre, the VINA-11 production is 20 quintals per acre.
The farmers were interested to cultivate VINA-11 in next season. The paddy is a pest resistant and disease free variety, which is ideal to be taken up in high land in Kharif season. Among others, district agriculture officer Chandra Sekhar Rao was present.
