Acting on the direction of Election Commission of India, two EVMs from Dehradun district-one from Chakrata and another from Dehradun Cantonment -were sealed on Tuesday in the presence of the representatives of Congress and others and a string of senior State Government officers. Notably, the State Election department had asked the representatives of all the political parties which had contested the last Assembly election to be present during the time the EVMs would be sealed. The two EVMs would be sent on Wednesday to the office of ECI in Delhi for the hackathon to be held later. Notably, after the ECI had dared the political parties to rig the EVMs used during the string of recent elections held in some States during the upcoming hackathon Nationalist Congress Party had taken up the gauntlet and decided to participate in the hackathon to show that EVMs could be manipulated to ensure sweep of a party..
Dehradun district magistrate SA Murugeshan said that two EVMs, one each from Chakrata and Dehradun Cantonment constituencies, are being sent to Election Commission of India. “Both the EVMs have been sealed in the presence of political representatives and senior district officers, including the DM, assistant chief electoral officer Mastudas, IAS (trainee) Aradhana Pal, sub-divisional magistrate Vinit Kumar, chief treasury officer Mohammad Gulfam Ahmad, assistant election officer PS Rawat, additional district magistrate (administration) Harbeer Singh and returning officers Pradhut Kumar and Kusum Chauhan.
It should be mentioned here that in Dehradun the polling booths- booth number 19 Darmigaad of Chakrata Assembly constituency and the booth number 27 Kanwali Road of Dehradun Cantonment Assembly constituency- had been selected through the process of randomisation.
