EC events to spread awareness on polls

To create awareness among the public, especially the youth regarding effective participation in the election process, the Election Commission (EC) is organising essay, debate, painting and slogan competition.

The competitions will run till the January 5 and instructions have been given to the educational institutions to conduct them in the proper spirit.

The National Voters’ Day is observed every year to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India. This year’s National Voters’ Day will be the seventh since its inception.

Raghavendra Pandey, the Deputy District Election Officer has instructed all educational institutions to complete the competitions by January 5 and forward the names of the winners to the Principal of Padma Vidyala by the January 6.

Raghavendra Pandey said that the Higher Secondary and Secondary students will take part in the essay and painting competitions.

The topic for the essay and the painting competition will be ‘Importance of Voting.’

The middle school students will participate in the debate competition for which the topic will be, ‘Youth are the Foundation of Democracy.’

The topic for slogan competition will be ‘The Role of Youth in Democracy’ and for the painting competition, the topic will be ‘Voters’ Assistance Centers.’

He further said that the essay topic for the college and university students will be,’ India is the largest Democracy in the World.’

The debate topic for the senior section will be ‘EVM machines are more reliable than ballot papers.’ ‘Participation of women in the election process’ will be the topic for slogan competition.
