Dehradun smart city proposal to be submitted to Centre today

The Dehradun smart city proposal will be submitted to the Government of India on Friday. A retro-fitting based plan has been used to prepare afresh the proposal for Dehradun smart city project. Features have been added to this proposal with an aim to keep the city green, secure and healthy. This proposal was presented in a meeting attended by the Dehradun Mayor and MlA Vinod Chamoli and the chief secretary S Ramaswamy among others in the provisional state capital on Thursday. During the meeting held in the secretariat the problems of traffic congestion and pollution in the city were also among the issues discussed by public representatives and officials.

In the presentation, it was stated that electric buses will ply in the ity for efficient transportation. These buses will be linked with Global Positioning System (GPS) and also be provided with WiFi facility. Bus stops with touch screen kiosks providing information about the bus timings will also be made as part of this system. Additionally, e-rickshaws will also be operated in the city. A footpath will be constructed for pedestrians in the Paltan Bazaar. Multi-level parking for 600 vehicles at Tehsil Chowk and 200 vehicles Astley Hall will also be developed. From the crowded Karanpur area to the Survey Chowk, parking and footpaths will also be developed. The Gandhi Park will also be renovated will separate arrangements also slated to be made for recreation and games for children. There will also be a walking track for those sauntering in the Gandhi Park. A smart parking management system will be put in place at the Tehsil Chowk and near the Clock Tower. The entry of vehicles will be prohibited in crowded bazaars. Solar power panels will be installed on the roofs of all government buildings which will also have underground dustbins installed. In addition to these, 24 water ATM powered by solar power, storm water draininage about 100 kilometres long, cent per cent smart automatic metre reading (AMR) and water management will also be facilitated. Rainwater harvesting and conservation will be made mandatory for private commercial buildings and complexes. About 30 underground dustbins will be installed in identified places apart from the facility of collecting and transporting the garbage. Furthermore, there will be 26 biodigester toilets apart from which awareness will also be raised for waste management. In addition to this, 500 persons living in slum settlements will be provided with homes. The heritage structure of the Clock Tower will also be revived, said officials.

It was further stated that for public security, five intersections will be improved, eye-poles with closed circuit television cameras will be installed along with WiFi facility, a sensor for measuring air pollution with facility for transportation of the differently abled.

Ambulance with trained doctors and diagnostic equipment will also be provided for. About 5,000 trees will be planted in educational institutions. Principal secretaries Radha Raturi, Umakant Panwar,  secretaries Indudhar Baudai, Harvansh Singh Chugh, additional secretaries V Shanmugham, JP Joshi and other officials concerned were also present in the meeting.
