The former journalist-turned-actor Suneel Mishra and Human Rights lawyer Askari Naqvi, when came together, left the audience spellbound with their lyrical performance.

On Thursday evening, the Sate Museum auditorium was jam-packed with the music, poetry and theatre buffs of the city. It was the event ‘Dastaan-Goi’ held at State Museum. Organised by Madhya Pradesh Urdu Academy and Club literati, the event was about the art of storytelling.

During the 16th century, people used to gather and tell a story and this event was named as ‘Dastaan-Goi’.

On Thursday, the terrific storytelling duo or say the Dastaan Goi maestros Suneel Mishra and Askari Naqvi revived the centuries old time all over again.

The duo performed the celebrated stories by Ismat Chugtai. The two short stories that were presented by the duo were ‘Mughal Bachcha’ and ‘Gharwali’.

Mughal Bachcha is a humorous, witty, sarcastic and at the same time is an equally heartrending picture of life, narrating about the homes of the last Mughals. The short story narrates the life of Gori Bibi and Kaale Mian whose marriage could not be accompalished due to the ‘male ego’ and the former’s ‘Mughalia ego’.

Another short story ‘Gharwali’ is about lajjo, the protagonist of Ismat Ghughtai’s story.

Gharwali or The Homemaker is a woman of precise pleasures. Brought up on the streets, lajjo does not think much about the social status. She does not distinguish between a milkman or the rich merchant or the boy next-door. She spreads smiles everywhere and for everyone. But her life just changes when she falls in love with Mirza.

With their perfect command over the Urdu language, both the artists were able to enthrall the audience and made the audience glued to their seats till the last.
