Worried over accidents occurring at regular intervals and taking toll of lives, the Dehradun police have decided to rope in the teachers for a full-blown campaigning against the menace. They would be given training on how to convince the students of the necessity of conforming to the traffic rules. Informing this to the media, Dehradun senior superintendent of police Sweety Aggarwal said on Monday that the teachers who would be appointed as nodal officers by the students of the educational institutions would create awareness against the ills of substance abuse and gender discrimination.

“Things would start as part of the Sarvodaya Scheme to be launched   on March 4,” she said.

Aggarwal said that the awareness classes would be held at the educational institutions at regular intervals all the year round. “SP Rural Shweta Chowbey has been made the in-charge of the awareness campaign on the issue of gender crimes while SP traffic DS Gunjyal has been made the in-charge of awareness campaign on traffic rules and regulations and prevention of road accidents. Besides, ASP lokeshwar Singh has been made in-charge of campaign on the ill effects of substance abuse. NGOs, managers /teachers of schools/colleges would be roped in the campaign to achieve its desired objective, she added.
