The State Assembly on Thursday witnessed uproarious scenes as Opposition members alleged that the college management committees (CMCs) have become rehabilitation centres for the defeated BJD leaders and the ruling party members protested against the charge.
Higher Education Minister Dr Pradep Panigrahy was answering a question on Central grants for infrastructure development in the higher education sector when the chaotic situation took place.
Congress MlA Chiranjib Biswal alleged that defeated candidates of the BJD have been appointed as presidents of management committees of all the colleges while elected leaders deserve the post.
The college management committees have been turned to be the rehahilitation centres for the defeated BJD leaders, he alleged.
Similarly, Tara Prasad Bahinipati made the same allegation and demanded that the Minister reply on what conditions the defeated BJD leaders have been made CMC presidents.
In his reply, the Minister said persons having interest in education are generally made CMC presidents and the allegation of rehabilitating BJD leaders is totally untrue. When opposition members opposed him, he said there is no law to appoint elected leaders as college management committee presidents.
BJP legislature Party leader KV Singh Deo demanded that the Minister should present copy of the guidelines on appointment of CMC presidents in the House.
Meanwhile, Congress and BJP members rushed into the Well of the House and shouted slogans against the Government.
At this moment, ruling Members stood at their respective chairs and shouted at Opposition members.
Unable to run proceedings, Speaker Niranjan Pujari adjourned the House at 11.25 am till 12.50. However, normalcy restored when the House reassembled.
