Special infrastructure will be set up in memory of Paika rebellion at Khordha for which a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be formulated.
The State Government in the Department of Culture will prepare the DPR and Detailed Estimate for the purpose.
The Union Ministry of Culture has requested the State Government to prepare the DPR and estimate for the infrastructure and present the same to the Government as soon as possible.
As Paika rebellion is associated with the State of Odisha in general and particularly with Khurda, creation of infrastructure has been urged by the Union Government.
Union Secretary Ministry of Culture Rashmi Verma has brought to the notice of the State Government in this regard.
Verma has said that infrastructure in form of a memorial, auditorium, stadium or cultural complex can be set up as a remembrance of Paika rebellion.
Creation of infrastructure will be funded by the Ministry of Culture; however the State Government will have to provide land free of cost, said Verma.
The Union Ministry has made a budget provision of Rs 10 crore out of which 20 per cent will be spent on cultural activities and 80 per cent for creation of infrastructure.
Accordingly a DPR is to be prepared keeping in view of the budget allocation made for commemoration of the Paika rebellion, said officials.
Commemoration of 200th anniversary of uprising of soldiers led by Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar in Khurda popularly known as the Paika rebellion is organized during 2017-18. The State Government is demanding to declare the Paik rebellion as the First War of Independence. The State Cabinet has already passed a resolution in this regard on the occasion of 200 years of the popular uprising.
In fact, the Paika rebellion of 1817 on July 20 found a national stage with former President Pranab Mukherjee describing it as "A nationa war" and said it was time the struggle and sacrifice by a generation of Odias got its due place in the annals of history.
