Haryana Finance Minister, Capt Abhimanyu on Thursday said that more than 95 per cent Aadhaar cards have so far been issued in the State.
“The State Government is preparing database of every citizen. Haryana is also the first State where Aadhaar cards are being issued to every child at birth,” said the Finance Minister while speaking at the 11th National Statistics Day function organised in Panchkula.
He said that efforts are also being made to make available data of all parts of the 44,212 square kilometre area of the State so that the land may be put to optimal use.
Paying tributes to Prof Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, who is regarded as the ‘Father of Statistical Science in India’, the Minister said that statistical data is required for formulation and implementation of any development scheme.
“The realisation of the vision of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to give 27 crore people of the country access to financial services through banks has been made possible by the use of statistics,” he added.
Highlighting the significant contribution made by Prof Mahalanobis in the preparation of the second Five Year Plan, Capt Abhimanyu said that new schemes based on those started by the statistician are now being implemented.
