While the agitation by Block Grant (BG) school and college teachers demanding abolition of BG system entered the fifteenth day on Wednesday, no solution to the impasse is in sight after the talks between the State Government officials and the teachers association leaders ended inconclusively on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, though a meeting of the State Government and the agitating teachers was to be held on Wednesday, it did not materialise. The agitators have decided to observe the Teachers’ Day on September 5 as ‘black day’ and involve students and their parents in their agitation.
Due to the teachers’ strike, studies in more than 5,000 schools and colleges have been paralysed.
Earlier, referring to the teachers’ demand, Higher Education Minister Ananta Das had, “Though the Government has accepted the principle of equal pay for equal work it will be difficult to implement it in reality.”
