A workshop on disaster management was organised in the meeting hall of North Chotanagpur commissionaire on Monday. Commissioner Dinesh Chandra Mishra inaugurated the workshop along with experts arrived from different parts of the state and country.
Addressing the gathering Mishra said that disaster is actually an accident which causes major loss to both the individual and the Government. Geographically Jharkhand is situated in a safer zone in comparison to other states of the country where disasters of flood, earthquakes etc. most often take place and causes huge damage. Jharkhand faces the threat of disasters caused by lightening and drought, so the experts will have to take special care of it and to suggest measures to cope up in case of such disasters.
An expert arrived from Ranchi who is retired Colonel said that drought is a major threat for Jharkhand so Government and individuals should be always ready to face its challenge. Selection of alternate agriculture product, providing balanced diet to the citizens specially the women and children in case of drought should be in the priority list of Jharkhand government. The pockets of the state where this threat is maximum should be developed in such a manner that maximum use of rainwater can be made.
Dr. Rahul of UNICEF spoke on another threat for the state that is lightening and said that individuals can be saved only by making them aware so massive awareness campaign is needed here in the state to make the citizens acquainted with the measures of safety needed when there is a threat of lightening.
In this workshop disaster like outbreak of fire in residential buildings, hospitals etc. were also discussed. Experts cited different judgments and said that the owners should take special care of this accident and people should be aware enough as to how to deal with such problems and where they should contact or give information.
Some speakers also raised the issue of atrocities against women and children in the state and said that is intensity is so high that it should be kept in the category of disaster in this state specially.
Representatives of different NGOs, members of disaster management groups of all the districts of North Chotanagpur commissionaire and other officials of the district administration were present in this workshop.
