Still to reconcile with the crushing defeat of his party in the recent Assembly poll, former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav equated the tampering of petrol dispensing machines with alleged tampering of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) on the social media. Akhilesh’s comment backfired and he was trolled on the social media site ‘Tweeter’.
On Thursday, the Special Task Force (STF) of UP had busted a racket of under-weighing of petrol and diesel at filling stations through electronic chip and remote control device in lucknow and seven petrol pumps were sealed by district administration. This provided an opportunity to Opposition parties to claim legitimacy to the allegation that EVMs were tampered with during the recent Assembly poll.
Samajwadi Party president and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was the first to react after the racket was busted and he tweeted on Saturday: `If petrol pumps can be tampered without any internet connection, so can the EVMs’. (Jab remote ke dwara chip se petrol ki chori bina kisi internet connection ke ho sakti hai, to EVM se bhee. Technology ka galat estimaal rokna hoga)
Akhilesh has been repeatedly demanding a probe into the alleged tampering of EVMs by the BJP during UP Assembly poll. BSP chief Mayawati too had claimed that EVM tampering led to BJP’s big victory in UP and Uttarakhand Assembly polls.
But Akhilesh’s tweets did npt go down well with the tweetarati. One Tweeter user wrote : `Amar Singh was right that you purchased the Engineering degree’. Another keyed in : `Yu are an Engineering student you should at least talk something sensible’.
Another Tweet said :`Bhaiyaa ab to Kejriwal bhee aisa nahi ro rahe, ab to mano goondagardi le doobi aapko’ (Bhaiyya even Kejriwal has stopped lamenting the EVMs, you must now accept that the you lost the elections due to goondagardi).
A Tweeter user also linked the EVM with the block buster ‘Bahubali’ saying :`One day collections of Bahubali are ample evidence that EVM was not hacked. It’s the national mood’. Another said : `Just for the sake of it, I want to ask who holds the remote of the EVM. You must do some introspection and find the actual reason for the defeat of your party and stop lamenting about EVMs’.
