Emphasising on ways to double the farmer income by 2022, Central Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Sudarshan Bhagat today appealed to people to take a resolution for building a prosperous nation. The Minister was the Chief Guest in the ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi’ programme under the flagship of Centre’s New India initiative at Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) here on Wednesday.
Bhagat emphasised on the need to address the concerns of the farmers citing that a huge population is connected to agricultural activities without whom a ‘New India’ would be a merely a dream. He stressed on the need of encouraging farmers to integrate farming with other activities of animal husbandry to increase their income.
The Union Minister also outlined a seven point strategy to double farmers’ income by 2022 which included focus on irrigation, investment in ware housing and cold chains, creation of national farm market, crop insurance, value addition through food processing, provision of quality seeds based on soil health and promotion of ancillary activities like poultry, beekeeping and fisheries.
Remembering August Kranti which lead to the ouster of British rulers from Indian soil within five years of its inception, he urged the people to take pledge to eradicate corruption, casteism, communalism, poverty, impurity and terrorism till 2022.
Vice Chancellor of BAU Dr. Parvinder Kaushal, Secretary of Ram Krishna Mission Ranchi Swami Bhawesanand, MlA from Kanke assembly constituency Jitu Charan Ram and other eminent persons were present on the occasion.
Earlier, Bhagat paid floral tributes to Bhagwan Birsa Munda followed by screening of a small video on ‘New India’. VC of BAU Dr. Parvinder Kaushal felicitated the Minister.
The programme was a part of a series of events organised across the country during 19-30 August 2017 by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Quit India Movement.
