Friday, 31 March 2017 | PNS | Ranchi

Though few arrests have been done in the high profile Neeraj Singh shootout case in Dhanbad, police are still searching for leads. making claims for the last 10 days that they were very close to culprits. Three close aides of prime accused, Sanjeev Singh, who is also a legislator from Jharia, were arrested on Wednesday after questioning them for more than 48 hours.

“No more arrests has been done after yesterday but few more people have been identified who might have links with this murder case,” said ADG (CID) Ajay Kumar Singh who is heading the Special Investigating Team (SIT) formed by DGP DK Pandey to investigate the case. The investigation is still on and the identified people may be arrested soon, he added.

Dhanbad SSP Manoj Ratan Chothe, also a member of SIT, asserted that they were working on several angles and might come up with some more updates soon. “We are working on a lot of angles and hope that very soon we will be able to come up with some more leads in this regard,” said Chothe.

Sources in the Police department, however, confirmed that some leads were gathered during the interrogation of three arrested persons on which they had been working on.

“Out of the five persons directly involved in the shootout, including the person who made the rented room available for them, sketch of three person has been prepared. Two of them have been identified and a team has been sent for their arresting,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

Meanwhile, the SIT probing the case has so far arrested Jainendra Singh, Dhananjay Singh and Sanjay Singh. Jainendra, is the

family friend of Sanjeev while Dhananjay is a member of Janata Mazdoor Sangh, a trade union led by Sanjeev. Sanjay is the elder brother of Ranjay Singh, a friend of Sanjeev Singh who was shot dead on January 29 by

goons allegedly hired by Niraj Singh.

Police have also arrested three others with sophisticated firearms, but were yet to confirm their involvement in the shootout, directly or

indirectly and were waiting for forensic reports.

“Three persons Prashant Singh, Monu Singh and Ashok Mahto have also been arrested for carrying sophisticated weapons but their links with the case could only be established on the basis of forensic reports which are still awaited,” said the police officer.
