Monday, 31 July 2017 | PNS | CHANDIGARH

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday emphasised to encourage the ones who raise their voice against drug paddling in Punjab.

“Any individual or group of people who raise their voice against the drug paddling in State need to be appreciated and encouraged,” said AAP’s State unit co-president and Sunam MlA Aman Arora.

Arora, who has written a letter to the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh appreciating the work done by Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mandeep Singh Sidhu, demanded that the officer must be awarded for organising a cycle rally against drug problem in the State.

Sangrur Police on July 23 had organised awareness campaign under the banner ‘Say No To Drugs, Say Yes To life’, he pointed.

Arora said that around 7,000 people from all the walks of society participated in the rally. “I personally attended the rally and felt that the rally was successful in spreading the desired message,” said Arora adding that similar initiatives can make a difference in the future as well.

In his letter, Arora said it was unfortunate that many prominent politicians in the State were patronising the drug trade in state but the State Government had failed to take action against them.

He said the efforts from the people of society have kept the faith alive to root out drug abuse from the State.

Arora said that even four months after the formation of Congress government in the state, it has not taken any initiative to investigate the involvement of big fishes in drug trade in State. He demanded the Government must fulfil its promise the send the drug traders in jail.
