A year on, 20 Balangir workers yet to get wages

Tuesday, 31 January 2017 | PNS | BALANGIR

Even as both the Central and State Governments make tall claims of providing job work to poor people at their respective villagers under the MGNREGA and timely wage yet reports of labourers not getting entitled wages are coming at regular intervals in Balangir district.

According to reports, 20 villagers of Burumunda under Khaprakhol block, who had worked for construction of a road under the MGNREGA, are yet to receive the wage. While the road constructed from Thutibhata to Jhalibahal has become one year old, the labourers are still waiting to get wages which would be around Rs 80, 000 in total.

“I had worked for 18 days and my total wages is Rs 8,000. I am still to get the amount,” said Trilochan Bariha, a labour.

He said though the labourers have informed Sarpanch and the BDO, yet in vain.

The district administration should conduct an inquiry and take appropriate action soon, demanded Bariha.
