A Congress candidate trying his luck for Behat Nagar Panchayat chairman's post in Saharanpur was detained by the police after for allegedly giving money to voters to seek their support. As As per reports, some voters of ward number 11 in Behat Nagar Panchayat Congress nabbed candidate Bobby Karnwal on Tuesday night. They informed the police that Bobby was offering them currency notes to seek their support in the Urban local Bodies elections. The police took Karnwal into custody for interrogation and verify the charge.
Senior Congress leaders, however, claimed that the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party was trying to set up the party candidate with the help of their cadre and stressed that Karnwal was not distributing any money.
Meanwhile, Congress also flayed the administration for large scale mismanagement in the on-going Urban local Bodies polls and said that negligence of officers has denied several lakh voters their right to franchise in the state.
``It is a matter of serious concern that local administration took no serious steps to ensure that no one should be denied of his right to vote,” said UP Congress Committee (UPCC) spokesman Sanjay Bajpai while demanding stern action in lucknow on Wednesday.
"The Election Commission should hold a high-level probe to identify those officers responsible for such large-scale bungling in voters list and take stern action against them,” Bajpai said.
He also criticised the state government for not taking up the revision of voters list properly. Bajpai said that this was the first time that names of even many prominent persons went missing from voters list.
