Monday, 31 July 2017 | PNS | Haridwar

A procession was organised by Ramanandiya Vaishnav Mandal and a seminar on poetics was conducted on Sunday to mark the 520th birth celebrations of poet saint and social reformer Tulsidas. The Sadhus of various Akhadas garlanded the idol of Tulsidas and recited from his verses. His poems are a treasure trove of multi-dimensional Indian culture.

Presiding over the function as chief guest, the state urban development minister Madan Kaushik said, “The saint poet Tulsidas has given to humanity an eternal scripture –Ramayana which introduces every Indian to its rich heritage. It is an asset for the generations to come.”

Tulsidas is one of the most luminous stars on the firmament of Hindi poetry. A leading poet of Bhakti marg (devotional path) of the 16th century he was born on the seventh day of Shukla Paksh (bright moon fortnight) in the month of Sawan.

Baba Hathyogi, Mahant Ramanand Das, Dr Shyamsundar Das, Swami Chinmayanand and Mahant Durga Das were also among those present on the occasion.
