The cyber cafes across Uttarakhand saw students streaming in on Tuesday with nervous eyes searching for their roll numbers in the result list. However, things ended well for Haridwar district with four girls- hailing from the district- figuring in the top 25 of the merit list in class 12 and 10 exams.
Megha Dhiman of Saraswati Vidya Mandir Sector 2, Ranipur in Haridwar scored third rank in Uttarakhand in class 12,. Swaleha, the student of the same school, bagged the fifth position in the list while Dakshta Tiwari of class 10 from Jamalpur Kalan has come 13th in the list, scoring 95.4 per cent with Rishita securing 23th rank in the same exams wtih 93.4 per cent.
Despite being bogged down by poverty, Swaleha has scored an astounding 93.4 per cent in the intermediate class while figuring fifth in the state’s merit list, proving that adversity, however formidable, cannot dampen an indomitable spirit resolved to make one’s mark. When this correspondent asked her to send her photograph, the girl said, “We have no Android phone in our house. Our financial position is not good enough for that.” Her father, an electrician, has been out of work for the past few years with the shop remaining closed. But she has learnt to take things in her stride. Asked about what she aspires to be, Swaleha said, “I long to be a computer science engineer.” With three sisters and one brother, Swaleha has turned a dazzling role model of her siblings and innumerable others who are too fighting against the daunting impediments to shine.
Dakshta Tiwari says that she wishes to pursue MBA and start her own business when she grows up. “I am fond of reading biographies of the great as these are the founts of inspiration. They have proved that nothing is impossible to achieve if we have the determination to overcome the obstacles coming in the way. My role model is doubtless the missile man A P J Abdul Kalam who is inspiration incarnate, embodiment of courage and passion to achieve a goal, no matter how difficult it is to reach,” shares Dakshta. Originally from Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, Dakshta is determined to make her mark as an entrepreneur.
Megha Dhiman who scored 94.2 per cent marks, figuring third in intermediate class, has appeared in JEE Mains. Her father is a head clerk in NCC office in Haridwar. “My goal is fixed. I long to excel in the realm of computers,” she says, eyes twinkling with the glow of invincible conviction.
