The Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Association (OSSTA) Mayurbhanj unit has launched a 21-day-long agitation demanding protection of the interests of the schoolteachers, their profession and service conditions, improvement of the schools and overhauling of the education system.
The Satyagraha that was launched by the teachers before the DEO office here on Wednesday is to continue till July 18.
The programme presided over by OSSTA district unit president Nirod Chandra Mohanta is being attended by district secretary Bharat Chandra Baral, senior teacher-leaders Duryodhan Behera, Jnanaranjan Panigrahi, Chittaranjan Palata, Balaram Das and Kishor Kumar Acharya.
The leaders on Thursday, speaking at the demonstration site, hinted that they would form a Shiksha Suraksha Manch to intensify the movement in support of their demands.
