Dehradun police are enthused with as many as 24 women constables wishing to work in the Cheetah Police in the city. Notably, Cheetah Police is a team of bike-borne policemen who rush to spots of incidents as soon as they are reported. This would be the first time that the force would have women constables in this service wing.
Dehradun senior superintendent of police Sweety Aggawal said at a press meet on Monday that the willing women constables would be included in Cheetah Police soon. “I am happy that so many women constables have desired to be co-opted in the Cheetah Police. It would doubtless strengthen the force further,” she said.
It is learnt that while reviewing the reports pertaining to the deployment of the women police, Aggawal asked the policewomen to join Cheetah Police, beat policing and others. Many of those present are learnt to have readily agreed. SSP said that it was not right to keep them vegetating for ever at the department posts doing petty clerical things. “They would be given proper training so as to enable them to execute their works effectively,” she said.
She further said that the mode of transportation for the women constables would be Scooty in place of the bikes used by the men constables now working in the Cheetah Police. “This is because the women are not comfortable with riding bikes,” she said. She said that the women constables would also be deputed on managing traffic in the city.
Meanwhile, the women constables deputed at police stations were trained about beat policing, Crime and Criminal Tracing Network System (CCTNS) and cyber crimes on Monday. “Besides, 18 women constables will be given training on cyber crimes while 20 on traffic rules and regulations and 12 to beat policing. After the completion of their training, they will be deputed in police stations on above beats,” SSP added.
