Girl ragged in Sambalpur nursing school

Sambalpur: An incident of ragging meted out to a girl by her friends in a nursing school at Dhanupali here has become a matter of concern for parents and local people as well. The girls cut short their friend’s hair forcefully and tortured her mentally. The matter came to the fore after the victim lodged a complaint at the Dhanupali police station. “We have started investigation on the basis of the complaint. Action will be taken against the girls to be found guilty,” said IIC Tofan Bag.

 PSS distributes water filters in Paradip

Paradip: With a focus to provide safe drinking water and to prevent waterborne diseases in the local slums, the Paradip Sakshyarata Samity (PSS) distributed 55 water filters among the BPl tribal families of Bauriapalanda in its office here on Sunday.  The PSS had earlier distributed water filters among the BPl families and tribal people of Mundapda in loknath Colony. Among others, PPT Secretary UR Mohan Raju, Senior Assistant Secretary P Tudu and Paradip ladies’ Club member Preeti Aarati Parija were present. PSS project coordinator Ashok Mohapatra, coordinated the programme.

 Pregnant woman dies in road accident in Boudh

Boudh: A pregnant woman died after a car hit her in Boudh district on Sunday. She was identified as Dhaneswari Danti of Dhungiapadar village. The tragedy occurred in front of the main gate of the Manmunda Community Health Centre. The car hit Dhaneswari while she was returning from the hospital. Police rushed to the spot and detained the car driver and seized the vehicle. Irate locals blocked NH-57 connecting Balangir and Khordha demanding compensation for the deceased’s family.

Man dies as bike hits road traffic board in JSpur

Jagatsinghpur: At Tarapur on the Cuttack-Paradip road on Saturday night, Pradeep Swain (37) of Dhupur village died after his bike hit a roadside traffic caution board. He was returning from Cuttack with his friend.

Devotees hold Jalaabhishek at Nilakantheswar

Tarbha: On the auspicious Shavan month, hundreds of devotees including women and children observed Maha Jalaabhishek at the Nilakantheswar temple here pouring water on lord Shiva. Kishorilal Agrawal and his wife took the initiative. Prasad was distributed to all devotees. Among others, Akash Sahu, lakmi Sahu, Sansit Sahu, Santos Sahu and Bhola Verma were present.
