Seminar on ‘Premchand: Shodh ki Nayi Disha’
Chandigarh: To commemorate the birth anniversary of renowned litterateur Munshi Premchand, Haryana Sahitya Akademi organised a literary seminar on ‘Premchand: Shodh ki Nayi Disha’. The seminar was addressed by eminent writer Kamal Kishore Goenka, former Head of Hindi Department of Patiala University, Manmohan Sehgal and chairperson, Hindi Department, Panjab University, Dr Ashok Sabharwal. The speakers highlighted the importance of the stories written by Munshi Premchand, which are relevant even in the context of the present society. They also discussed the life of the renowned author and presented his unpublished stories. Director, Haryana Sahitya Akademi, Dr Kumud Bansal also spoke on the occasion.
Over 700 students appear for abacus competition
Chandigarh: Over 700 students from North India appeared for the 13th annual national level abacus competition at GGDSD College in Sector 32 here. The students were from different states of north India including, tricity, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. Jasmit Kaur was declared as the overall winner and won the rolling cup while second prize winner was Shweta Sharma and third prize went to Rinku Kackria. The competition which is held annually was organised by Soroban (Abacus) Education for Mental Arithmetic System (SEMAS), the official organisation dealing in Japanese abacus and brain development programs for children in the age group of 5 to 13 years and operational in 14 countries across the world.

City based Deepti Mahat chosen as VP ISACA
Chandigarh: Chandigarh based recently crowned Mrs India Overseas 2017, Deepti Mahat has made her mark at international footprints. She was chosen as vice president of Indo Sweden Art & Culture Association (ISACA). This is the largest association of Indian diaspora in Sweden & is supported by the embassy of India in Sweden. ISACA is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the Indian culture awareness in Sweden. Deepti would be instrumental in organizing various cultural events in Sweden to strengthen the tradition of incredible India. Deepti was coronated with Mrs India Overseas 2017 at the grand finale of Mrs India which was held on July 4 in Chennai. She is also the winner of Mrs India North 2017.
Needy students selected in 2nd Scholarship Mela
Chandigarh: A total of 100 students from various parts of North India were selected under scholarship in the 2nd scholarship Mela organized by Aryans Group of Colleges, at PHD Chamber, Sector-31 here. Over 425 students from the region visited throughout the day wherein they were given on the spot counseling & scope of various courses, on the spot scholarship, on the spot admission and education loan by India Overseas Bank. 100 students on merit cum means basis were selected out of which 20 students were selected under B.Tech,15 under Diploma, 15 under B.Sc(Agri), 10 in BBA/BCA, 5 in B.Com , 5 in MBA, 10 in law, 10 in Nursing, 10 in B.Ed and MA(Edu) etc.

DSP BlackRock registers 13.99 % return
Chandigarh: DSP BlackRock Focus 25 Fund has outperformed its benchmark by a huge margin with returns of 13.99 per cent and 17.93 per cent across 3- years and 5 years respectively. Govt committed for people: CM
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal on Sunday urged the people of the State to work for the upliftment of the poor and the helpless, and to enable them to become self-sufficient. The Chief Minister was speaking at a function organised by CHAUPAl and CBMD in Karnal, where he gave away cheques for microloans to working women. He also gave away e-Rickshaws to 71 eligible beneficiaries under self-employment scheme of the organiation. He said the Central and State Governments were making consistent efforts to ensure the welfare of the people and were implementing several welfare schemes for the poor, the benefits of which were reaching the beneficiaries directly.
