The Centre has agreed to send 100 companies of Central armed police forces to ensure peaceful Assembly election in the State.
During the last election, 75 companies were sent by the Centre. This time, they are sending 25 companies of CAPF more, said IG (law and order) Deepam Seth on Monday. He further said that additional check posts have been made along inter-state borders and inter district borders to stop illegal activities during election.
In the ongoing election, the number of polling centers and polling booths is more than that of the previous election. Another senior police officer said that over 4,400 State police forces and 12,000 home guards will be deputed on the election duty. Deployment of 8,000 home guards from Rajasthan, 2,500 from Himachal Pradesh and 2,000 from Uttar Pradesh has been approved, he informed.
In all, 343 polling centres have been demarcated as vulnerable. However, the report on critical polling centers is still awaited, he added. He said that the sensitiveness of polling booths is defined in terms of various factors like the presence of criminals, communal vulnerability and high rate of polling percentage.
With the nomination process almost done, police officers have been directed to submit report on vulnerable and critical polling centres soon. As per the ECI’s guidelines, the forces, including Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), will be deployed at polling stations in inter-state border areas, problem areas, sensitive/ ultra-sensitive polling stations and EVM strong rooms.
