Assault on the girls happening at regular intervals in Udham Singh Nagar district, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang- raped by five persons in Sitarganj police station area in the district. However, Sitargarj police claimed to have arrested four out of the five accused. The incident reportedly had happened on June 26 at Nanakmatta while the parents of the girl had lodged the complaint at theSitarganj police station on Wednesday. Police said that a team has been formed to arrest the absconder who is still on the run.
Earlier on Wednesday, the survivor’s mother had registered a complaint at Sitarganj police station, stating that her daughter had been raped after she had gone to meet her three friends, including a girl, at Bidaura Majhaula, Nanakmatta.
All the four friends had been sitting in an open place at Bidaura when five persons identified as Deepak, Sunil, Anil, Manish and Shankar, residents of Baruwabagh of the same district, had come on three bikes. The five miscreants had allegedly started beating the four when three of them had managed to escape with the survivor being left. The miscreants had allegedly taken her to Baruwalbagh and raped her, taking their turns.
Acting on the complaint, a case under sections 363/366 /376d/323 of IPC and sections ¾ of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) had been registered against the accused on June 28. On the direction of Udham Singh Nagar SSP Sadanand Date, several teams led by Sitarganj police station in-charge BS Bhakuni had been formed to arrest the accused. Acting on a tip- off, the team members arrested the four accused- Deepak, Sunil, Anil and Shankar- on Thursday. Police also recovered a mobile phone from the accused which is supposed to have been snatched from the survivor. The team is now on the lookout for Manish who is still at large.
