Puneri Paltan outclass Tamil Thalaivas 33-20

chennai: Puneri Paltan produced a composed performance in the last 10 minutes to outclass Tamil Thalaivas 33-20 in Inter-Zone Challenge Week of Pro Kabaddi Season 5. It was an evenly fought match for 30 minutes but Deepak Hooda helped Pune inflict two all outs to record a comfortable victory. Tamil Thalaivas suffered as Ajay Thakur was kept in check by Puneri Paltan for most of the match. Puneri Paltan are third in Zone A table with 52 points from 13 matches. Tamil Thalaivas are bottom of the pile in Zone B with 32 points from 14 matches. In a closely contested first half, both teams refused to give an inch and were neck and neck in raid and tackle points. No all outs were inflicted in the first half. Tamil Thalaivas led 3-1 in the fourth minute but Rajesh Mondal scored with a two-point raid to level the match at 3-3.

 

India 'A' women's hockey team lose 1-3

Perth: India 'A' women's team started their campaign in the Australian Hockey league with a defeat today, going down 1-3 to Victoria in a high-quality encounter here. Emily Hurtz (22nd minute), Aisling Utri (41st) and Madi Ratcliffe (55th) struck for Victoria while India's consolation goal was scored by captain Preeti Dubey (47th). Victoria were quicker off the blocks in the second quarter as they scored a wonderful field goal through Emily Hurtz in the 22nd minute to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The third quarter saw Victoria dominate possession as they extended their lead through a well taken penalty stroke through Aisling Utri in the 41st minute. However, India started off the fourth quarter stronger and dictated the tempo which resulted in their captain Preeti Dubey pulling one back for the visitors by scoring a field goal in the 47th minute. But Victoria piled pressure on the young Indian team as they earned a penalty corner in the 55th minute. It was Madi Ratcliffe who converted it.

 

Paraguay u-17 team land in Mumbai

mumbai: The Paraguay team for upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup, being hosted by India, arrived here earlier on Friday. According to sources, the team arrived earlier in the day and has checked in at a hotel in neighbouring Navi Mumbai, one of the six venues of the tournament beginning October 6. Paraguay are placed in Group B along with New Zealand, Mali and Turkey. They will begin their campaign with a game against Mali to be played on October 6 at the DY Patil Stadium in Nerul in Navi Mumbai. Sources also said the England U17 team trained at the Mumbai Football Arena in suburban Andheri.

 

Germany u-17 to arrive in Goa today

 

Margao: Germany will be the first team to arrive in Goa on Saturday for the FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in six venues across the country from October 6 to 28. Germany, who are placed in Group C along with Costa Rica, Iran and Guinea, will play their first match against Costa Rica on October 7. Costa Rica, Iran and Guinea, who are the other teams from this group, will arrive on October 3. Germany, who are not regular participants at FIFA U-17 World Cups, have appeared at a five U-17 World Cups so far. Germany reached the last eight at Scotland 1989. The greatest success enjoyed by a German team at an U-17 World Cup was at the inaugural tournament in China PR in 1985, where they finished as runners-up. Germany performed as a compact unit throughout the entire qualifying campaign and recorded seven victories from as many games up until the European Championship semi-final, scoring 36 goals and conceding just six.                 Agencies
