Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has come up with a novel idea to test the pulse of the people in the State. He has reportedly made his party’s member of lok Sabha from Nalgonda G Sukhinder Reddy resign to pave the way for a by-election.
Sukhinder Reddy, who was elected in 2014 on Congress ticket but later defected to the TRS, has already handed over his resignation to KCR and it is likely to be forwarded to the Speaker for acceptance.
Party sources said that TRS will field a new face as its candidate in the by-election as Sukhinder Reddy was tipped to become the chairman of the State-level Farmers’ Coordination Committee, a Cabinet rank post.
“The plan is to win the Nalgonda seat with a bigger margin to demoralise the Congress in a crucial district”, said a senior TRS leader.
Pointing out that Nalgonda lok Sabha constituency include the Assembly segments of State Congress president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, his wife Padmavathi, and leader of Opposition in the Assembly K Jana Reddy, TRS sources said that if TRS won such a seat it would be a big boost to the party ahead of 2019 polls.
Senior Congress leader from Nalgonda K Venkat Reddy has welcomed the idea of lok Sabha by-election in his constituency and said, if Congress president Sonia Gandhi asked him he was ready to contest the by-poll. “Even if any other candidate is fielded I will work hard for his win”, he said.
