Health first

Saturday, 30 September 2017 | TS Karthik | Chennai

Sir — World Heart Day, celebrated on September 29, is a good day to create awareness about cardiovascular disease. It’s high time for people to become smart about their eating habits. It is ironical that while we demand superior quality unadulterated fuel for our vehicles, when it comes to fuel for our body, we compromise and eat junk food.

In this fast-paced world, people are busy chasing money and don’t have the time to respect their tummy. They are keen on fat pay packages and are unaware of the saturated fats they consume. Today’s jeans-loving generation should eat what suits their genes/DNA and not ape the West blindly.

Though human health is one area where the 20th century has made significant contributions, but we still have a long way to go. It is alarming that India ranks high in people suffering from diabetes. Also, the average age of a heart patient has come down. Only a healthy nation can make a wealthy nation. Healthy people being more productive will contribute more to the nation’s growth.
