India has termed Pakistan's latest statement about its discussion with the Afghanistan National Security Advisor (NSA) on swapping of former Indian Navy official Kulbhushan Jadhav with that of Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP) Pakistan militants as a new addition to the series of lies that the neighbouring country keeps telling.
“The remark about the swap of people is one more addition of imaginary lies and story creation. We all have seen what has happened at the United Nations General Assembly (where the Pakistan ambassador showed the picture of Palestinian girl as a victim from Kashmir injured by pellet guns fired by Indian security forces). I can only say that one more additional has been made in the chain of lies,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said on Friday. The official added the Afghan NSA has already denied the statement made by Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif.
Asif while speaking at the Asia Society in New York on Wednesday had made a claim that Pakistan received a proposal to swap Kulbhushan for a terrorist who carried out the horrific 2014 Peshawar school attack and is now jailed in Afghanistan.
“The terrorist who killed children in APS in Peshawar is in Afghan custody. The National Security Adviser told me that we can exchange that terrorist with the terrorist you have, which is Kulbhushan Jadhav,” Asif said with an obvious reference to Afghan NSA.
Afghanistan NSA Mohammad Haneef Atmar denied Asif's claims saying during his meeting with Pak delegation he discussed sanctuaries in Pakistan and exchange of the top five Taliban leaders detained in Pakistan. “There was no mention or reference of India or an Indian citizen,” Atmar said. Pakistan Foreign Office too later retracted Asif statement saying Indian media was twisting the Foreign Ministers comments to spread falsehood.
