Notwithstanding the MNS’ keenness to have seat adjustments with the Shiv Sena for the forthcoming BMC polls, Sena president Uddhav Thackeray said on Monday that his party had not received any formal proposal from the Raj Thackeray-led party and also indicated that his party had no plans to have any alliance with other political party for the civic polls.
A day after senior MNS leader Bal Nandgaonkar visited Thackeray’s residence “Matoshri”, met senior Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai and presented a proposal seeking seat adjustments with the Sena, Uddhav said he had not received any formal proposal from the Raj Thackeray-led party.
Confirming that he indeed gone to “Matoshri” on Sunday, Nandgaonkar said that the MNS had made an “un-conditional” proposal to the Sena leadership. “ We are not insisting on specific number of seats. We have told them ( the Sena) that we are ready to accept the seats that are offered to us by the Sena, as part of the seat-sharing arrangement,” Nandgaonkar said on Monday.
When his attention was drawn to Uddhav’s cold response to the MNS’ proposal, Nandgaonkar said: “Through the proposal, I made an attempt to bring two Thackeray cousins together. From Uddhav Thackeray’s response, it is clear that my attempt has failed”.
Nandgaonkar is a close confidant of Raj Thackeray. Informed MNS sources said that Nandgaonkar had made proposal to the Sena leadership at the behest of Raj.
It may be recalled that on January 10, Raj himself gone on record saying that that his party was open to alliances for the BMC polls, thus triggering speculation that the MNS was keen to have a tie-up with the Shiv Sena in the polls.
