A high level team led by DIG rank officer of National Investigation Agency (NIA) sunday conducted a surprise raid at the residence and office premises of Divender Singh Behl, Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Social Peace Forum (JKSPF), a constituent of All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) in Bakshi Nagar area of Jammu in connection with funding of terror and subversive activities in Kashmir valley.
Divender Singh Behl, a lesser known practising advocate, came on the radar of the investigating agencies following progress in the ongoing investigations in the terror funding cases of Srinagar based Hurriyat leaders.
Singh followed Syed Ali Shah Geelani and others including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik. He was popular among local kashmiris' as he too passionately chanted slogans of 'Azadi' during public gatherings. His videos are available on various social networking sites.
NIA is currently probing role of prominent Hurriyat leaders after arresting them from Kashmir valley on July 24.
The raid which started around 11.30 a.m on sunday continued for about six hours during which NIA men are learnt to have recovered several incriminating documents, mobile handsets, a Tablet, papers related to some financial transactions and other records.
Chaos prevailed outside the residence of Divender Singh, son of a retired school teacher from Nowshera in Rajouri district. Activists of Bajrang Dal also staged a demonstration shouting slogans while demanding strict action against him.
Security personnel deployed outside the residence escorted him safely and prevented Bajrang Dal activists from manhandling him. Singh is likely to be shifted to New Delhi for further investigations in the money laundering case. For past several years Singh remained in touch with hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and is learnt to have organised funds for him through Pakistan based ISI handlers in Islamabad.
He also travelled frequently to Pakistan and attended seminars and talk shows in Islamabad and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). He remained in touch with officials of Pakistan High Commission in Delhi to facilitate his smooth travel and other logistics. Divender Singh was frequently travelling to Kashmir valley and attending public meetings and funeral processions of militant commanders and local youth killed in firing incidents involving security forces. He was leading an affluent life and owned a fleet of SUV's.
He was also running his business of electrical spare parts in Jammu city.
