The third series of a four-day India International Science Festival (IISF) aimed at expanding 'spectrum of scientific temper' in the country and abroad with a focal theme of 'Science for New India' will kickstart from October 13 in Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Nearly 7000 delegates, including scientists, students, entrepreneurs, technocrats are participating at the event to be hosted by IIT, Madras, Anna University, Central leather Research Institute and Madras University.
Science and Technology Ministers from Bangladesh, Nepal, Portgul and Afghanistan will jointly inaugurate the event, which is being held out of Delhi for the first time, Dr Harshvardhan, Union Science and Technology Minister told reporters on Friday.
He said that the mega festival will give opportunity to science enthusiasts from across the States and students from schools in Tamil Nadu to showcase outstanding science projects and interact with scientists and researchers.
The festival includes a national start-up summit, grassroots innovators' meet, industry-academia interaction, science film festival and a special thematic session on deep ocean research and a science, technology and industry expo are other highlights.
Dr Harshvardhan said that young scientists across the country (State and Central universities, R&D labs) will be sensitized about the important flagship programmes of the government such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Swastha Bharat, Digital India, Make in India and Climate Change and sustanibility while a programme, Science Village: Parliament to Panchayat, is being held for the students nominated from institutions located at the Adarsh Village adopted by MPs.
like last two years at the IISF events when science students made world record, this time too, a group of 1000 students from class 9th and 10th will attempt for guinness book of world record by attending the “largest Biology lesson.”
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will mark his presence in the valedictory session of the event, said the Minister.
