Parts of Saurashtra and South Gujarat regions recorded heavy rain with some rivers flowing above danger marks in districts of Rajkot, Amerli, Junagadh and Valasad. This, even as the State is said to have received its entire share of seasonal rain in 2017.
According to official figures, Gujarat has received 100.85 per cent of its seasonal rain till Wednesday morning. The North Gujarat region, that had witnessed fury of rain and floods early this month, has recorded 138.17% of total rains, followed by generally water-scarce Saurashtra region clocked 102.65% of seasonal rains. The other scarcity hit region of Kutch too has seen 97.64% of seasonal rains this year, with green parts of the state of South Gujarat and Central Gujarat receiving 85.47% and 81.15% rains respectively.
Among the districts that have received maximum rains include Morbi, which has seen 186.22% of rains, followed by Banaskantha and Patan districts with 183.67% and 159.21%. All the three districts had witnessed floods in last two months, leading to deaths of over 100 persons and over 1.2 lakh people being relocated due to flood waters.
A youth was reported to have died as he was washed away in Aji river that disects Rajkot.
Reports of a boat capsize were also received off Porbandar coast with coast guard being pressed in to service to rescue fishermen who had ventured into the rough seas. The Porbandar-Dwarka Highway too had to be closed due to heavy rains on Wednesday.
The Met department meanwhile has forecast more rains till September 2 due to depression over the stateand urged fishermen not to venture out in the seas.
