Gujarat is leading among the States by constructing 25,873 houses under the the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday. Union Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said in a written reply that the number of houses constructed so far were 32 per cent of the total 82,048 houses which were to be built for the urban poor under PMAY (Urban) in 30 States and Union Territories.
The Minister replied that Gujarat was followed by Rajasthan with 10,805 houses constructed so far, Karnataka-10,447, Tamil Nadu-6,940, Maharashtra-5,506, Uttar Pradesh-3,822, Madhya Pradesh-2,666, Bihar-2,409, Jammu & Kashmir-1,986 and Andhra Pradesh-1,650 houses which accounting for 2 percent of the total houses so far built.
According to him, Ahmadabad led others with construction of 10,183 followed by Jaipur-7,434, Surat-5,216, Rajkot-3,817, Bengaluru-3,428, Vadodara-1,665, Gaya-1,334, Tumkur(Karnataka)-1,286, Chennai-1,279, Gulbaraga (Karnataka)-1,203, Jamnagar (Gujarat)-1,111, Dhanbad-1,156, Visakhapatnam-1,094, Alwar(Rajasthan)-883 and Rai Bareli (UP)-802.
In another question, the Ministry informed that a total of 82,048 houses have been constructed under the PMAY (Urban) as on March 20, 2017 and of these 62,312 have been occupied.
According to the details provided by the Government, under PMAY Urban, a total of 16,42,685 have been sanctioned as on March 2017.
These include the subsumed projects under the Rajiv Awas Yojana, it said.
According to the details provided by the Government, of the 82,048 houses, 25,873 houses had come up in Gujarat, 10,447 in Karnataka, 10,805 in Rajasthan, 6,490 in Tamil Nadu and 5,506 in Maharashtra. In Uttar Pradesh, 3,822 houses had been constructed under the scheme.
