Didi blames Centre for Darjeeling crisis

Friday, 30 June 2017 | Saugar Sengupta | Kolkata

Under fire from the Opposition parties for pushing Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) to the wall so that it resurrected the stale Gorkhaland movement to threaten the unity of Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday dumped the entire blame for Darjeeling crisis at the Centre’s door accusing New Delhi for “playing politics in the Hills.”

Banerjee, who was addressing a huge gathering at Burdwan, blamed the Narendra Modi Government for the situation in Darjeeling which was witnessing indefinite bandh for the past two weeks or so.

“Having miserably failed to ensure peace in Kashmir they (Centre) are now poking their nose in Darjeeling. They are playing politics here. But we will not let them play game in Bengal,” she said vowing to stop partition of Bengal for the second time.

“I will give everything, job, development, food, and whatever that is within our means but I will never allow Bengal to be partitioned again. Not till I am alive” Banerjee said blaming the Centre for “playing politics in Darjeeling.”

Attacking the Centre for “forcing the GST on the people of the country when they are not prepared for it right now,” she said “when they did demonetisation, we objected saying it was going to be the biggest scam and eventually we were proved right. Now we are saying that forcing GST on the nation without giving it sufficient time will be disastrous. By the time people will understand the impact of this hasty decision it will be too late.”

When the Trinamool was “protesting against their hasty decision, they are threatening us with stopping of central funds and sending CBI. But I am not afraid of CBI or anything. They can send CBI, ED or whatever. I am not afraid of them and I will continue to raise my voice as I always take up people’s cause.”

Attacking the Centre for diverting the people’s mind to trivial issues like cow slaughter and divesting the Government’s profit-making and heritage concerns she said. “They are trying to sell Burn Standard, Air India or for that matter even the Indian Railways. Occasional implementation of PPP models is alright but disinvesting the profit-making concerns is like selling away the national property. Air India should not be sold out because it is the pride of the nation.”

She warned that the people had brought BJP to power and “if they continue to do excess they will be thrown out of power by t he people.”
