Something unprecedented and ugly incident happened in the Bihar legislature when an MlA thrashed one MlC. This happened when a woman MlC accused her colleague of ‘physical advances’ and this enraged her husband, an MlA, who punched the lawmaker pushing him to the wall of the corridors of the legislature building.
Incidentally, the three belong to NDA. While the accused MlC lalbabu Prasad is senior functionary of the BJP, the MlA Neeraj Kumar Singh Bablu, who assaulted him, also belongs to the BJP. Bablu’s wife Nutan Singh is the lone member of lJP in the Upper House. The three-term MlA was earlier Independent and supported the Nitish Kumar led Government.
The BJP has reportedly removed Prasad from all the organisational posts after the Central leadership of the party took a tough stand after seeking reports from the State leaders. Nutan had also complained to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah about the incident.
The woman MlC has petitioned the chairman of the legislative Council Awadhesh Narain Singh to terminate the membership of Prasad. “The women members of the Council are now badly scared of him,” she said. Many members of the Opposition, including former CM Rabri Devi, came in her support. On the other hand, dhoti kurta and saffron bandi clad Prasad was seen pleading with the chairman and BJP legislature party leader Sushil Kumar Modi his innocence. Prasad is vice president of the Bihar BJP and a familiar face in the party office. The BJP leaders were tightlipped over the ugly incident. But the JD(U) and RJD members accused Modi for trying to save Prasad.
A fuming Bablu, the BJP MlA from Chhatapur, alleged that BJP MlC Prasad touched his wife inappropriately and when she called him screaming and threatening to commit suicide after the ugly incident, he rushed from the Assembly to inquire about the happening. A tall and sturdy Bablu, known for his fire power, immediately caught Prasad and dragged him towards the narrow corridor where he showered blows on him and repeatedly slapped before being separated by other shocked lawmakers. “I thought it better to teach him a lesson before complaining to the chairman,” Bablu, who is known as the most well dressed lawmaker, said.
The matter was also raised the Council by the victim and other members and the chair decided to refer the matter to the standing committee on ethics. One BJP MlC said that it was not the first time but third time that Prasad made advances towards her. Nutan had been elected to the Upper House last year.
Only a couple of days back a motion had been brought by the ruling alliance against Prasad for his suspension from the House for one day when he tried to snatch files from the hands of Excise and Prohibition Minister Abdul Jalil Mastan in the House. However, the matter was dropped after his party pleaded for withdrawal of the move. 3
